Paris. Our first international LAN.

From August 7–9, 2026, the Spirit Esports CS2 roster competed at the Esports World Cup 2026 Open Qualifier in Paris — a 128-team offline LAN with $100,000 on the line, four main-event slots, and Valve Ranked status awarding VRS points.

We didn't go to win it. We went to play, to learn, and to bank VRS points. That part we did.

Day 1 — NRG 🇺🇸 (0:2)

A brutal opening draw. The veto foreshadowed the problem: we picked Mirage, NRG picked Cache — a map our roster essentially doesn't play.

• Mirage 4:13 — 4:8 at the half. We were in it. Then 0:5 on the back side.

• Cache 0:13 — 0:12 in the first half.

Mirage came down to details: timings, wasted utility, a late rotation. Against tier-1 opposition on LAN, those get punished every time. Cache isn't an excuse — it's a to-do. The map pool needs widening. Leave a hole, and good teams will find it.

Day 2, Match 1 — Vandulken (2:0)

Business handled, and handled convincingly:

Two maps, three rounds dropped. The clearest look at what this team is when it plays its own game.

Day 2, Match 2 — Acend 🇧🇬 (0:2)

Bulgaria's Acend (REDSTAR, Skrimo, h4rn, SPELLAN, KalubeR) stood between us and progression.

• Mirage 6:13 — 4:8 first half again, then 2:5.

• Inferno 4:13 — 3:9, then 1:4.

Same pattern as NRG: strong starts, competitive first halves, then the tank empties. Plenty of good situations created — but experienced teams convert those into rounds, and we don't yet. There's a reason they're top 50.

What we're taking home

The organisation was excellent. Admins were helpful, scheduling was clear, everything ran smoothly. A genuinely professional environment where the players only had to think about playing.

The experience. Arena, crowd, lights, cameras, LAN pressure. You can't simulate that from home. Now it's in the bank.

The VRS points. Three matches played, points secured. Objective met.

The homework. Two concrete items: a wider map pool (Cache cannot stay a hole), and closing out second halves — because the first halves are fine.

What's next

Back to the domestic and international online calendar. Paris wasn't the finish line. It was the starting line.
